KittyWits’ Sweeping Tails….
“KittyWits” is a very small operation in the Hollywood Park 95822 area of Sacramento. KittyWits’ primary focus is to help reduce the number of unwanted cats and litters of kittens in our community. We are a member of Petfinder. KittyWits is not a registered non-profit organization and clearly there is no monetary profit in what we do. Our profits are measured by the feline lives we save and the happiness we send home with our adopting families…
You might have run into KittyWits at our locally owned pet store, Pet Haven (Florin @ Riverside) where we have been generously offered floor space on Friday and Saturday afternoons for adoption events. You might have seen our “orange cat” signs and flags along Florin Road. You may remember us being in the Lakecrest shopping center a few Holiday seasons ago… Did you hear about KittyWits from a friend or see us on Petfinder.com? You may have read my car’s license plate frame and stopped to ask questions. However our paths have come together, you have helped make our community service a successful and rewarding ministry.
My exuberance for cats started about 20 years ago while working near the river and the City’s animal shelter. Like most, it started with one stray finding her way to my office, hungry and convincing. Her name was Btu, a quirky tortoiseshell who lived a long and healthy life earning her keep with her yard patrol. Over the years she was joined by Stripey, Magic, Tom, et al. Soon an important lesson was learned when kitten season arrived with all its gusto. OMG how can sooo many kittens come from so few adult cats ~ and so quickly? I’m sure those who live or work in neighborhoods with stray, feral or outdoor cats have been astounded by this same scenario. It was clear that rules needed to be established. Cat Rule # 1: You must be spayed or neutered to eat here.
In the early years I did volunteer work for several local cat rescue organizations and felt there was more for me to do. Boy I didn’t realize just how much more there was and so close to home. The evolution of KittyWits started as a matching service ~ we matched our adoptable kittens/cats with the right person or family to create a WIN-WIN situation. You’d be surprised how cats select their owners. They are very smart creatures, who can outsmart any human by using their survival skills, natural instincts and feline psychology. How do you think those soft little kittens and sweet adult cats know how to wrap you around their paw? They just start purring! So simple.
